HISTORY
In November of 1986 a small group of believers formed a new Independent, Fundamental, Baptist Church in Opelika, Alabama. This church was named Straight Way Baptist. The church began in an old house that was remodeled at a place known to the locals as “Five Points.” After meeting at this location for three years the congregation moved to another old house on Fitzpatrick Avenue. This move required another remodeling effort and the church stayed at the Fitzpatrick location for the next year.
In the spring of 1990, Berean Baptist Church (located at 3001 Marvyn Parkway) felt led to sell their facilities and offered those facilities to Straight Way Baptist at a very reasonable price. Believing this to be the will of God the purchase was made in July of 1990, and once again Straight Way Baptist Church moved locations.
During this relocation it was the desire of the members of Straight Way Baptist and Berean Baptist to incorporate, and from this new beginning the decision was made to rename the church Marvyn Parkway Baptist.
Many years have passed, and there have been numerous relocations and changes since 1986. However, the one thing that has remained the same is that this group of believers still seeks to do the will of the Lord. Over the years God has richly blessed the ministry founded by Pastor David Guy Floyd, Sr. Today Marvyn Parkway Baptist Church has more than doubled in membership, and in 2008 completed a new sanctuary which also doubled the facilities. Through the ministry of Marvyn Parkway Baptist Church there have been many souls saved, homes restored, and people called into full-time service for our Lord and Saviour. Marvyn Parkway Baptist Church gives all the praise, honor, and glory to God for the work that He has done in our midst. It is our desire to continue reaching the lost with the gospel of Jesus Christ, and to continue serving the Lord faithfully until He returns.
